Twas the night before Christmas, in #downtownBarrie.
The shoppers were stirring, wanting only to be merry.
The coffee was hot, in all of the trendy cafes.
It’s winter remember, what else can I say.
The shop owners were nestled all snug in their stores,
hoping for you to make what was theirs, yours.
Now I was in the kitchen, as the wind began to freeze.
At this point, I’m ready to make everyone grilled cheese.
When out on Dunlop Street there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the grill to see what was the matter.
I tore open the door and jump onto the sidewalk,
anxiously looking up and down the wide city block.
The sun beating down on this crisp winters day.
Kristen from Tropical North shouts over a ‘’Hey!’’
When, what to our wondering eyes should appear?
No not a miniature sleigh, and there were no reindeer.
It was actual a limo, a kind of black sedan.
We knew in a moment it must Jeff Lehman.
It wasn’t a surprise that the driver was Barrie Cabbie.
The mayor jumped out, not looking to shabby!
“Oye Ainsworth! Yo Romita! Hey Shipley and Ward!
Oh, Silveira! , Yo Brassard! Hey McCann and Khan!
Let’s get over to the Grilled Cheese Social Eatery!
Grab some lunch and check out the cool scenery!”
As the aging cheddar and the creamy brie await,
the soups getting hotter and we’re excited to plate.
So into the eatery the council did fly.
At this point Morales is wondering, Who is going to buy?
And then, the door opened and the entrance had started.
The smiles, the laughter, all of it whole hearted.
As they each took a seat, the last to be Mr. Prowse,
Dan in the kitchen said, ‘‘Dude, the mayor is in da house.’’
He was dressed all in black, from his head to his shoe.
He looked pretty cool with all of his crew.
A bundle of toys he had at his side.
We’re guessing donation for the Rock95 toy drive .
His eyes how they twinkled! his dimples how merry!
He is, after all, the Mayor of the great city of Barrie!
His energy filled the room like a brilliant bright light,
and the hair on his head was as dark as the night.
He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,
placed all the orders, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his debit card on the counter with ease,
‘’Lunch is on me’’ he announced with a breeze!!
Having placed all the orders he then sat with his peeps.
They all enjoyed their lunch, shouting ‘’this place is for keeps!”
It was time for them now to head back up the street.
Lots of taxes to lower, now that they have had their eats!
As Lehman jumped up, to his team he gave a whistle,
and away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere they drove out of sight,
“Happy Christmas to all, and to all a grilled-night!”
